Workers compensation in Washington State in focus: The Governor’s work safety and workplace health conference

The Washington State Governor‘s annual Industrial Safety and Health Conference will take place between the 24th and 26th of September 2019. This year the conference is being held at the Tacoma Convention Center. The goal is to provide attendees with strategies and information to improve workplace health and safety. In part, this is achieved through training, education, as well as introduction to tools and technologies. The Governor’s office anticipates that over 1000 people will be attending.

What to expect during the conference?

During the conference, attendees will have an opportunity to watch the Pole Top Rescue Competition at Tollefson Plaza. The location of the plaza is next to the Tacoma Convention Center. Here, as part of the competition, highly skilled electrical utility teams will compete in rescuing a simulated victim from a utility pole. In addition, workplace heroes will receive the Governor’s Lifesaving Award.

As an attorney representing injured workers, some with severe work injuries or work related diseases, I strongly believe the health of our workforce should be a primary concern. I think this is an important conference and encourage everyone who can to attend. We all have a role to play in reducing workplace illnesses and injuries.
